Years ago, I watched How to Make An American Quilt, a heartfelt drama about a young woman named Finn (played by Winona Ryder), who spends a summer at her grandmother’s house to write her thesis and begins to question her engagement. As she listens to the stories of her grandmother and the women in her quilting circle—each one sharing their own journey of love, loss, and resilience—Finn slowly comes to understand the beautifully complex nature of relationships. The quilt they sew becomes a tender metaphor for the way life and love are stitched together: piece by piece, story by story. It is a moving tribute to the quiet power of women across generations.
Reflecting on the past year of the magazine, I see our own version of that quilt taking shape. Women from all walks of life—different cultures, ages, beliefs, and experiences—coming together with honesty and courage to share their truth. Each story, like a patch in the quilt, is unique and irreplaceable. No voice louder than the other, no thread more important—just a vibrant tapestry of strength and light.
And in this tapestry, I see lighthouses. Not one grand beam shining alone, but many steady lights—scattered, yet connected. Each woman, in her own way, casting light for someone else who may be finding their way. Some shining through the fog of heartbreak, others through the calm after a storm, and some through the quiet peace of self-discovery. And all of it matters.
There is no single definition of strength, no one version of courage. Some women roar. Others whisper. Some rebuild. Others rest. But every single one is a beacon. Every single one is enough.
And that’s what makes this “quilt” so extraordinary. It isn’t uniform or perfect—it isn’t meant to be. It’s stitched with stories, bound by authenticity, and softened by grace. It wraps around those who read it and reminds them they are not alone. That someone, somewhere, has walked a similar path—and has chosen to share their light.
One thread at a time.
One voice, one story, one truth at a time.
And I couldn’t be prouder to witness it.
